This week, it was announced that streaming has officially dethroned cable as the most watched platform. This is based on statistics from the month of July of this year. It’s a very small difference (only .04 percent) yet, it’s certainly a huge win for streaming. Streaming had 34.8% viewership, while cable had 34.4% viewership in July.
Ever since Netflix rose from it’s humble beginnings, streaming has never been the same. It seems as if every couple months there’s a new service out, ready to combat cable. There’s been some failures (Quibi, CNN+) although, for the most part it’s been a huge success for most companies. We can expect that this trend will continue, as subscription models seem to be trending.
Do you think streaming will completely takeover cable? Personally, I hope this doesn’t happen. There are definitely some awesome streaming apps, though if everyone gets into the game it poses a problem for consumers like me! It will eventually get more expensive than cable, leading us to the question of… what’s the point?
