Musashi bowed to no one, he was a masterless warrior in the late 1500s; in other words, Ronin. Starting at age 13, he successfully won his first duel. He sought out on a journey to perfect his unique two-sword style. He won all of his (61) duels, never treating the current like the past, and always adapting.
Later in life, Musashi retired from swordsmanship with an undefeated record. He was a legend across Japan. He became a monk, and then wrote a book called “The Book of 5 Rings”. It seems that Musashi wanted to preserve the wisdom that he gained throughout his journey. The book goes into detail about his journey, martial arts, strategy, and philosophies about life that could be influential today.
