One of the most comfortable pieces you could wear on a cool day is a hoodie. I love hoodies so much that I just wanted to pay homage to them, they really deserve it. I’m sure you’re just like me, not knowing the history of the hoodie. In this article you find out not only who made the hoodie, but the history behind it.
The Knickerbocker Knitting Mills in 1934 claims to have made the first hooded sweatshirt. It’s pretty shocking that it wasn’t made earlier in time. It’s a genius invention. Also shocking, 8 years before in 1926, the company made the first sweatshirt. You might wonder, how could an unheard of company make so many inventions with no clout? Well, the company changed it’s name in the 1930s to a name most of us can recognize today, ever heard of Champion? Champion is the creator of the hoodie and sweatshirt.
Being a sportswear brand, Champion hoodies were made for athletes. The hoodie was developed for athletes warming up in between practice sessions and game time. Champion partnered with Wentworth Military Academy to create their school uniform. They were one of the first brands ever to sponsor a school. Champion has been a household name ever since I was a kid. It’s good to know the impact that they had on my life.
