Music is beautiful because it’s always evolving. We are constantly hearing new sounds and rhyme schemes that put us in a trance. Rap has done it’s job to take the crown of people’s choice. Back in 2000, there was a new sound that emerged from London. Some say this sound gave London an identity that was away from the Americans. Ironically, the sound is popular in the USA currently. The new sound that i’m referring to, is Grime.
Grime is a genre of music composed of many different genres such as: Garage, Electronic, Dancehall, and Hip Hop. The BPM (Beats Per Minute) of grime songs would be typically around 140, which is rapid. UK Pirate Radio is attributed with bringing Grime to the public for the first time, through different radio shows.
Skepta and Giggs are both Grime Artist that have had huge success. Both are seen featured on the More Life Album by Drake. Skepta was the first Grime artist I’d ever heard, with the song Shutdown. Kano and Dave are also both successful Grime artists, who have also seen commercial success in the hit show Top Boy. Grime has grown far in influence, influencing drill music in America. Artists such as Pop Smoke used the Grime sound to transform a new sound in New York. Artists in London are still keeping the Grime name alive, as the history continues to grow.
