We all have our strong opinions that we will stand behind. Sometimes, these strong opinions are blinding. In this article I will identify 3 types of bias to be aware of.
The first bias I want to discuss is the confirmation bias. This is when you overlook information that doesn’t match the opinion that you believe. You only accept information that confirms your beliefs, while blinded to the rest. This is dangerous because you are holding yourself back from valid information.
The second bias I want to talk about is the information bias. This is when people correlate decision making with information even if it’s irrelevant. Personally, I have this bias. Sometimes a bit of irrelevancy is what I need to make decisions, though I understand the influential aspect.
The third and last bias I want to discuss is the hindsight bias. We may feel like we can predict things better than others. Though, this just isn’t true. In hindsight, everything looks predictable and it seems that everything was right in front of your face the whole time. This is why casinos work so well, people always think they were so close to winning in hindsight.
