Levi Strauss is the mind behind the Levis brand. In 1852, he created a dry goods company called Levi Strauss & Co. The company opened in the height of the California Gold Rush. His goal was to make clothing that was for “hardworking people”. In 1873 he and his tailor Jacob Davis created what we call today the blue jean.
Levi Jeans grew immensely in popularity relatively quickly. Miners, Rock Stars, Presidents, and everyday people wore the signature blue jeans. In 1934, the first Lady Levi’s were released. These were just blue jeans (for women). 2 Years later in 1936, the iconic red tab was now seen on the Levi 501 jeans. The location has stayed the same since inception.
In today’s world, Levi’s are so popular that you almost look right past them. You rarely ever stop to think, how did this even get here? The Levi brand has expanded past clothing, and now has a Chemistry program and a Pioneering program. It’s truly amazing to see the evolution of brands over time. Thanks for Levi’s, Levi Strauss!
