Diamonds may not be forever. The most precious luxury jewel may run out in the future. But, does it even matter? Let’s take a look.
To know about diamonds, first you must know about De Beers. De Beers historically had a monopoly on diamonds, and has a stock full in vaults. Other countries didn’t like that De Beers had a monopoly on the market share of diamonds. Russia, Canada, and Australia have mined their own diamond without the single channel system. This brought the De Beers market share from 85% to 30%. The company only releases a small amount of diamonds to keep the demand high, with supply low.
The answer to the question of if diamonds will ever run out, is yes. We probably will one day run out of diamonds. Although, it’s not important that we run out of (mined) diamonds, because there’s a ton of diamonds still in vaults from various companies. The supply will never truly run out.
