Ethiopia is a beautiful country located in East Africa. With over 114 million people living there currently, Ethiopia has the 2nd highest population in Africa. Ethiopia also has something very unordinary to the rest of the world, which is a different calendar year.
Ethiopia has a 13 month calendar year. 12 months are all 30 days, and in the last (13th) month there are 5 additional days (6 on a leap year). The calendar that Ethiopia uses is called the Coptic Calendar, which is the oldest calendar in history. This calendar was made 3 Millennia (3,000 years) Before Christ. The calendar is 7 years behind the rest of the world because of the perceived date of the birth of Jesus
The Gregorian Calendar is the calendar that’s used by the rest of the world, which is 7 years ahead of the Coptic Calendar. Are we living in the future? Is Ethiopia living in the past? Can’t say, I’ll let you decide that.
