Ikigai is the Japanese formula for happiness. It loosely translates to your “reason for being“. Ikigai is the reason that you wake up motivated in the morning. It’s your purpose. Furthermore, feeling good while in deep focus. Although, work is not always your ikigai.
There are four pillars to help you find your own ikigai.
The first, is “starting small”. This means identifying areas you want to improve. Start slowly, and build consistently.
The second pillar is “releasing yourself”. This means that you need to free yourself from judgement and be your own true self. All while breaking away from bad habits and negative thoughts.
Third, is “seek harmony and sustainability“. Your ikigai needs to bring harmony into your life. It needs to make you happy. It needs to also be sustainable for the future, you should be able to make a lifestyle with your ikigai.
Lastly, the fourth pillar is to “take joy in the small things”. Enjoy the ride, celebrate your wins. Don’t get so hyper-focused on the end goal, that you lose the joy of the climb.
If you enjoyed reading about ikigai, I recommend the book The Four Agreements, which you can purchase on Amazon.
