A24 is an entertainment company that started as a film distribution company. You may have seen the iconic “A24” logo at the beginning of a film. If not, you may have heard of Euphoria, Everything Everywhere All At Once, or Uncut Gems; all 3 are made by A24. There’s absolutely something special about A24 films, all of them feel similar in a good way. The stories they portray are always interesting.
A24 started as a film distribution company in 2012. The founders of the company are Daniel Katz, David Fenkel, and John Hodges. A Glimpse Inside The Mind of Charles Swan III was the first film of A24 in February 2013. It got terrible ratings, and A24 was off to a poor start. Although, Spring Breakers was the film that instilled their bright future a month later.
A24 tapped Harmony Korine for Spring Breakers that was released in March 2013. Harmony is notoriously known for making controversial films such as KIDS and GUMMO. It was easy to assume that Spring Breakers would be a cult classic. A24 started to buy the rights of more movies as time went on and expanded the brand. They bought the rights to The Witch, Room, and Ex Machina and that’s what really took A24 to the next level.
Today, one of the most popular shows on TV is Euphoria. Drake teamed up with A24 to produce the show, and it’s been a hit. It’s extremely controversial as it follows Zendaya playing a high-school dope feen. Yeah, it’s true. A24 is breaking out past the ceiling of success. They have truly created something special and I applaud them for that.
