For many years researchers have been trying to figure out dreams. There’s many studies that go into how we dream and why we dream, yet there’s one that caught my eye. Researchers at MIT may have found a way to manipulate dreams.
Dormio is a device made by MIT scientists that is able to influence your dreams. Dormio is built to wear on the hand while sleeping, like a glove. The moment before you fall asleep, the one in which you are dozing off, you are in a state called hypnagogia. The Dormio device uses this state of hypnagogia to influence, extract information from, and extend hypnagogic dreams. During hypnagogia, the glove makes a sound and that sound is what influences your dream.
It is extremely interesting to see this kind of technology. Dormio, or something like Dormio would definitely be something I’d like to try out. It is inspired by the Steel Ball Technique. Thomas Edison went to sleep with a steel ball in each hand, and when he entered into a hypnagogic state he would drop the balls onto the floor. The sound of the impact would wake him and he would record what he was thinking before the balls hit the floor. He used this technique to increase his creativity and spur new ideas. Hey, you can do it too.
