This article will contain some spoilers from part one of the Jeen-Yuhs trilogy documentary.
Kanye West is one of my favorite artists of all time. He’s inspired me a lot, and hearing him makes me want to go create. His music ability is at the highest level possible. Coodie, a friend of Kanye and also director of the documentary Jeen-Yuhs, gave us an inside look at the Kanye West story.
Coodie was a TV host for a public access show called “Channel Zero“. Also, Coodie was a comedian from Chicago. On this show, he would get to know a young Kanye West. Coodie saw his star power early on, and left his own career to document Kanye’s journey.
Kanye West truly had an underdog story. He was doubted and overlooked, nobody really saw the artist potential in him. They didn’t see the artist in Kanye, but they for sure saw the producer in Kanye. He was hot as can be, working with Jay Z. Still, he just couldn’t get through to people. We saw his journey at Def Jam, playing one of the best songs ever made, All Falls Down, and barely getting a reaction. Mixed feelings from Roc-A-Fella had Kanye stressed out. He was only being seen as a producer, nothing more nothing less.
Ms. Donda, Kanye’s mom, was definitely one of the highlights of the documentary. Her natural, sweet, and caring aura showed through the camera. Kanye and Ms. Donda were best friends. It seemed like they could finish each others sentences. It’s a beautiful family to see, you could tell that Ms. Donda was very proud and supportive of Kanye from day one.
