There are many great horror movies out there. Yet, it’s always difficult to find them. To be completely honest, there are way more terrible horror movies than there are even good ones. For that reason, I will list 10 horror movies for you to watch during Halloween season.
#1 – Hereditary
Hereditary is one of the most recent horror movies that really made an impact. It’s filmed superbly, and also definitely very scary. Every turn of the movie seems wilder than the last, and it’s truly a wicked story with a creepy cast. For those reasons, i’d recommend you to watch ASAP.
#2 – Blaire Witch Project
The 1999 film Blaire Witch Project is a classic horror movie. It’s filmed documentary-style, and takes place in the woods. What’s scarier than getting lost in the woods? Probably having a witch stalk you while your in the woods to the point of insanity. If you’ve never seen, this is a must-watch for all horror fans.
#3 – Nightmare on Elms Street
Another classic movie is Nightmare on Elms Street. This movie drives the fear of going to sleep; nightmares, specifically. It is one of the most popular horror movies of all time, and for good reason. The eccentric Freddy Kruger is truly one of a kind horror villain. I’d recommend to watch the original Nightmare on Elms Street, yet if you are younger you might find the remake more entertaining.
#4 – Friday The 13th
I can’t have a list with Freddy, and not include Jason. The original Friday the 13th is absolutely terrifying, with one of the scariest scenes in horror history (won’t spoil it). If you don’t already have a fear of hockey masks, this might evoke that fear. It’s a classic that I believe all horror fans would enjoy.
#5 – Insidious
The Insidious series is one of the scariest series of movies i’ve ever seen. While I did enjoy the first couple more than the last, they are all good. In my opinon, the first movie is the scariest one and i’d recommend you to watch them in order. If you want a house-horror scare, then this is the option you should watch. It focuses on demons, ghosts, and pretty much anything paranormal.
#6 – The Fourth Kind
The Fourth Kind is by far the scariest alien movie I’ve ever seen. It splits between a pseudo-documentary and real movie. Although, some of the scenes in this film feel so uncomfortably real. The movie is about aliens that invade a small town in Alaska. This film left me uneasy for weeks, so if you prefer alien horror movies this one is for you.
#7 – The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
There are two sides of the coin when it comes to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The original film (1974) is absolutely nuts, it’s unsettling, unnerving, and very disturbing. The 2003 remake in my opinion is one of the best movies of all time. It’s terrifying, thrilling, and also disturbing. The style of filmmaking that takes place in this movie is also from what i’d like to call the golden-age. Whichever one you decide to watch, you’re in for a wild ride.
#8 – V/H/S
The V/H/S series is still making movies to this day, yet i’d say the real horror was captured in the first two films. V/H/S is a movie compiled of different stories that play as “found footage” from an abandoned home. The stories are often bizarre, yet terrifying. V/H/S 2 would be my favorite compilation, although it is necessary to watch the original V/H/S.
#9 – Midsommar
Midsommar is an unconventional horror movie following a cult in Switzerland. It’s a super creepy place plagued by Pagan tradition, yet everyone lives a seemingly normal life. When students visit this cult in Switzerland for College, they’d never expect what they got themselves into. Hey, what could go wrong?
#10 – Sinister
Last but not least, we have Sinister. Believe me when I say that this list has no order, and some may say that Sinister is the scariest movie on this list. This movie follows a writer that is haunted by tapes that he finds in his new home. The tapes and the haunting behind them leave a terrifying feeling in the pit of your stomach. Be warned, this movie is very disturbing. If you haven’t seen this, it’s certainly worth watching for the Halloween season.
