Goodfellas is a movie based on the real life Henry Hill. Henry Hill was a part of the mob, and not only that, he moved up in the ranks and became notorious. The film Goodfellas has been one of the most popular mafia films ever made, and in this article I will tell why.
Goodfellas is the gritty truth of all gangster activity. It shows the hardcore, nasty, grimy moves that the mob does. It’s a very surreal movie (I mean, it is based on the real Henry Hill after all). The film starts following a young Henry Hill played by Ray Liotta. A young kid living in New York City, that looks up to the mafia lifestyle. In the beginning, you hear the famous words from young Henry “ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to be a gangster”.
As the movie progresses, it shows an older Henry Hill navigating the mob life, which is really when the movie actually begins. It’s a crazy, thrilling ride the whole way through. It shows the trials and tribulations of showing love to the gang, and how quickly it can become dangerous.
There’s violence, sadness, organized crime, family, and deception at the forefront of this film. It’s a must-watch for those who like mafia films, gangster movies, and thrillers. But personally, it’s my favorite movie, so I would recommend it to anyone.
Sadly, the main character in the movie, Ray Liotta, just recently passed away on May 26th of this year. This movie shows the range that he had, and we hope that his soul rests in peace; we will always remember you Ray!
