The headlines really do get crazier every day. This time in technology, we have a crazed SAO (Sword Art Online) fan that just so happens to be the creator of the Oculus, inventing the most controversial Virtual Reality headset ever. Palmer Luckey has made a custom VR headset that will end the players life when they die in game, in real life. This guy isn’t some sort of genius for this idea, as it’s been in many shows and is the plot of one of the most popular anime: Sword Art Online. Regardless, is this really necessary?
Palmer Luckey Explains Deadly VR Headset: NerveGear
In a blog post on his website, Palmer Luckey explained the world of Sword Art Online and his fantasy of having it coming to life. It seems he’s spent a lot of his time analyzing the show, and conversely thinking about how to make it a reality. The headset on the anime is called NerveGear, which he is halfway done re-creating. He states that he knows how to do the killing part, but the actual game and protocols are still heavy in the works.
I know for a fact that people will try this out. The infatuation with putting your life on the line is something straight out of popular shows today, with Squid Game being an example. Every day we see the world getting more advanced, It’s becoming clearer that we have no idea what the future holds.
