The CERN experiment on July 5th is causing chaos on social media. People are claiming that a portal will be open to another universe and that we need to protect our energy before its taken from us. I’m going to give you all the facts in this article, so you don’t have to search it up yourself.
First of all, I want you to understand what’s actually happening. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a 17-mile-long track built for smashing billions of protons against each other at a velocity close to the speed of light. The machine is in the hands of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). CERN is home to the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. Three years ago, this machine was shut down due to the pandemic. The goal is to uncover the mysteries of our universe.
The Higgs Boson Particle was found on July 4th, 2012 while using the LHC in Switzerland. The Higgs Boson is the fundamental force-carrying particle of the Higgs field, which grants other particles their mass. This was the first-of-it’s-kind find in physics, a huge breakthrough for scientists. The particle is 125 billion electron volts, 130x more massive than a proton.
On July 5th, the LHC will be running at the highest energy levels than ever before. This will mark the 3rd time the machine has ever been activated. I’ve never seen the show, but apparently Stranger Things deals with something similar happening (gone wrong). Truth is, there is a (small) possibility that the LHC could create a small black hole. Every outcome is truly unpredictable, because we have never dealt with such a high level of energy. Although, if you want to see it all unfold live, you will be able to watch the stream of the CERN LHC in real-time.
