Dragon Con is one of the biggest conventions in the United States. It’s held in Atlanta, Georgia spanning over a couple block radius taking up space in 6 different hotels. It’s a congregation place for nerds of all kinds. If you are into Marvel, anime, Star Wars, video games, or movies this is the place for you. Let me answer a couple of questions that you may have about the convention.
What Should You Expect At Dragon Con?
Dragon Con is home to many different cosplayers (people wearing costumes). The convention holds up to 80,000 people and it was sold out every day; this means that the streets/hotels were packed 24/7. If you are someone who gets anxiety with large crowds, this may not be for you. It does get chaotic — not in a violent way, but in a really crowded way.
There are many different panels of experts in film, science, technology, comics, hacking and many other things. If you are into a classroom-like setting while learning new information, you would enjoy going to panels. They are throughout the day and you should get there early because space fills up very quickly. I’ve enjoyed the panels I’ve seen, and would recommend others to go to ones that interest them. Be respectful!
Dragon Con also has a parade at 10am in the morning. This parade hosts many different groups of (professional?) cosplayers. The streets are blocked off and as you can imagine, it is absolutely packed to the core. I would recommend to go see it one day and get there a bit early to secure a good spot. It lasts for about an hour and usually starts around 20mins late. Family fun for everyone!
Is Dragon Con A Party?
People sometimes describe Dragon Con as one big party, and they’re not wrong at all. Some of the hotels have a DJ and people are dancing and having a good time while taking photos with other cosplayers. There are a ton of raves at Dragon Con as well, but beware these aren’t the ravers that you are used to (family friendly; mix of pop/older rap songs). If you enjoy partying you should definitely check out Dragon Con at least once! I’m sure you will have a good time.
