It’s not often that you see a new car anime being made, they are actually exceptionally rare. Initial D, which aired back in 1998 told the story of Takumi Fujiwara. He worked as a delivery boy but somehow learns to become an incredibly skilled driver using his fathers Toyota Corolla AE86. He uses this skill to become of the best mountain racers in Japan. After this story ended, a new story was born: MF Ghost.
MF Ghost is the sequel to Initial D and follows a 19 year old prodigy driver named Kanata Rivington. After returning home to find his father, he joins a street racing league called MFG that uses internal combustion cars. He’s not interested in prize money, only the thrill of a challenge. This anime sets a “futuristic” tone into the 2030s and new interpretations of cars and racing.
