Today, Google surprised the tech world by announcing a name change for its AI assistant, Bard, to Gemini. This wasn’t just a cosmetic switch; it came bundled with an advanced subscription tier and integration into various Google products like Gmail and Docs. So, what’s in a name, and what does this rebranding signify for the future of AI assistants?
Why Change The BARD name?
“Bard” evoked associations with storytelling and the written word, while “Gemini,” with its astrological connotations, hints at duality and interconnectedness. This might suggest a shift towards a more versatile and integrated AI experience. Also, with subscriptions being added we are in the next phase of the service. Gemini has already integrated Google apps such as Gmail and Docs. It’s still very early and we have to see what Google is planning to lock behind the paywall, but Gemini has been more efficient than ChatGPT on the free side because of the incoming data from the internet. Let’s all hope it stays that way.
