Coca-Cola or Coke for short, is by far my favorite soda. We see coke products all around us, and I believe we’ll see more before we see less. It was created by Dr. John Pemberton and the first glass was sold on May 8th 1886, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. John was a pharmacist that made the syrup which was then added to carbonated water to make the extremely tasteful Coca-Cola. The first glass was sold at Jacobs’ Pharmacy for 5 cents. But what was actually in those first glasses of Coke?
Dr. John made the formula for Coca-Cola in his backyard. The original formula contained cocaine. Yes, you read that correctly. The recipe contain(ed?) coca leaf extract which is what cocaine is made from. The name Coca-Cola is actually inspired by the cocaine use (shocker)! The “Coca” part comes from that, while the “Cola” part comes from a nut called the Kola nut.
It’s worth noting that cocaine was legal when Dr. John Pemberton used it in the formula for making Coke. Although, many people speculate that cocaine is still being used in Coke. Coca-Cola will deny this till the end of time, even though we know the truth. I mean, it would make sense why it’s so addictive!
