Origin is a movie as the title states, a movie about the origin; the roots of the history.. of racism in the United States. Ava DuVernay has made a historical drama that’s very unique in perspective and storytelling. It is based on the Pulitzer Prize winning author Isabel Wilkerson’s book titled “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents“. The film follows Wilkerson played by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor on her journey of discovery about her family history tied in with American history. The film dives into United States racism and drawing parallels between the “American caste system” and other caste systems worldwide.
