Many Millennials and Gen Z are consumed in their phones on social media for hours a day. While on the social media, we see others making millions, getting married, partying overseas, constantly. We see these things so much, that one can vicariously live through the internet (like many already do). Are our expectations becoming more unrealistic the more accessible things seem?
There’s been many that have tried to drive the point home to the young generations. We’ve gotten sensitive, which isn’t a horrible thing, but it is what it is. Kevin Samuels was the closest one to getting through to the masses on this issue of unrealistic expectations. While it was a harsh, brash way to do it, it did need to be done.
Lets be clear, I’m not saying to have low reaching goals and aspirations. I’m not telling you that you can’t get what you want in life. All I’m saying is that everything is work, and you have to work to be successful in anything. It rarely ever just comes to you.
We can’t ignore that the TV is now our phone. It’s entertainment in our pocket. We can’t lose our discipline nor will-power. Like everything, it’s a muscle that has to be trained. Setting a plan, routine, and or goals will help motivate you to actually step forward, instead of sitting on the sidelines. You don’t become a victim of unrealistic expectations by staying focused on your journey.
Rest In Peace Kevin Samuels and prayers out to his family and friends.
